FROM THE PLAYERS

Rupert is not only great on the stick and is fun to work with, but the wonderfully egalitarian way in which he communicates to artists who vary in levels of musical ability, knowledge and experience makes him a gift in the rehearsal room and on the podium.

Helen Medlyn, NZ soprano soloist – December 2010

It has been a joy and wonderful musical experience working with Rupert and the TWSO. Rupert was such a pleasure to work with and as a soloist I can only say that I felt completely at ease under his direction. I really hope to join Rupert and the orchestra again in the future as not only was it a musical pleasure but also personally a fun time.

Fiona Pears, NZ virtuoso violinist and composer – November 2010

Rupert D’Cruze is a really first-rate conductor who has all the attributes necessary to extract the very best from an orchestra. His rehearsal technique is excellent, displaying thorough planning, great communication skills, and consideration for the players. He is a joy to work with.
Ian Parsons, Bassoon – December 2007

He worked us hard and used every minute of rehearsal time productively. In the words of one of the orchestra members, a ‘top man’. We’ll certainly invite him to work with us again. Diana Gash, Violin – February 2008

Rupert gave clear and focused direction throughout the rehearsals. The performance was exciting and a pleasure to be part of. In rehearsal Rupert’s manner has a very successful combination of enthusiasm and encouragement, whilst maintaining a very strong concept of musical direction.
Douglas Patterson, Cello – February 2008
